Loving Me by Loving Those I Love

My husband was laid off from a job he loved a couple months ago. It’s never easy to move on from something before you’re ready and even more problematic than the financial aspects was the uncertainty of our new reality. We had no idea how long it was going to last, what it meant for plans we’d been making or what else it would affect that we didn’t even know about yet. To say it was a shock to the system was an understatement. But on that first day, I was so totally overwhelmed by the love and support from the people in our network. Friends immediately asked for his resume to circulate it around to their networks. A colleague knew of some free-lance work in my husband’s area of expertise and sent it along. And less than an hour after a close friend at work found out, I came back to my desk to find a big bottle of scotch and a card for my husband. Taking care of me by helping take care of the people I love? Now that’s some amazing support. -C, 37
