My Dogs are My Kids

My dogs are my kids. I love them madly and deeply and I was blessed to have two dogs who grew old together. When our beloved Venus crossed the rainbow bridge at age 13, I was devastated and inconsolable. Friends and family were loving and supportive. They sent flowers and thoughtful cards. They called and sent texts to let me know they were thinking of me and to share beautiful memories of Venus. Something that took me by surprise and ended up helping me with my grief was learning that donations were being made in memory of Venus to pitbull rescues and local animal rescue leagues. It helped to heal me to know that, in her name, the lives of other dogs would be saved. And it meant more than anyone will ever know that Venus’s gentle soul inspired such generosity. -B, 41

Loss of our four-legged friends is just hard – there’s no way around that.
